【MARIJN VAN KREIJ】

Dutch artist Marijn van Kreij is known for his drawings and collages based on existing images.
His subjects range from artworks, comics, and illustrations from children's books to book covers and record jackets.

Van Kreij meticulously observes the images he collects and diligently copies them to deepen his understanding.
He then connects multiple sources with associative threads, leading them to new compositions, freeing them from their original meaning and context.

While his works may appear accidental or improvised at first glance, they are in fact the culmination of a long process of contemplation, arrangement, and rearrangement.

Biography
Born in Middelrode, Netherlands, in 1978.
He studied at AKV St. Joost in Breda and the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam.

Recent major solo exhibitions include "How to Look at a Spiral" (De Pont Museum / Tilburg), "Meaning Making" (Joseph Tang / Paris), "Contemporary Presences: Marijn van Kreij" (Picasso Museum / Barcelona),

and "Nude in the Studio" (Post / Tokyo).
His works are housed in national and international museums and private collections, including the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Bonnefantenmuseum (Maastricht), the De Pont Museum (Tilburg), and the Staatliche Graphische Sammlung München.

Recently, the art book "Pictorial Content?", a compilation of his drawings and collages from the past 10 years, was published by Roma Publications.

He currently continues to create work based in Tilburg, teaches at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, and participates in the activities of the artist collective "it is part of an ensemble".
