【MARIJN VAN KREIJ】

Dutch artist Marijn van Kreij is known for his drawings and collages based on existing images.
His subjects range from artworks, comics, and illustrations from children's books to book covers and record jackets.

Van Kreij meticulously observes the images he collects and carefully copies them to deepen his understanding.
He then connects multiple sources with threads of association, leading them to new compositions and freeing them from their original meanings and contexts.

Although his works may seem accidental or improvisational at first glance, they are in fact the culmination of a long process of contemplation, placement, and rearrangement.

Biography
Born in Middelrode, the Netherlands, in 1978.
He studied at AKV St. Joost in Breda and the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam.

Recent major solo exhibitions include "How to Look at a Spiral" (De Pont Museum/Tilburg), "Meaning Making" (Joseph Tang/Paris), "Contemporary Presences: Marijn van Kreij" (Picasso Museum/Barcelona),

and "Nude in the Studio" (Post/Tokyo).
His works are housed in national and international museums and private collections, including the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Bonnefantenmuseum (Maastricht), De Pont Museum (Tilburg), and the Staatliche Graphische Sammlung München.

Recently, a collection of his drawings and collages spanning approximately 10 years, "Pictorial Content?", was published by Roma Publications.

He continues to create works in Tilburg, teaches at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, and participates in the artist collective "it is part of an ensemble".
