【MARIJN VAN KREIJ】

Dutch artist Marijn van Kreij is known for his drawings and collages based on existing imagery.
His subjects range from artworks, comics, and illustrations from children's books to book covers and record jackets.

Van Kreij meticulously observes his collected images and diligently copies them to deepen his understanding.
He then connects multiple sources with threads of association to guide them to new compositions, liberating them from their original meanings and contexts.

While some works may appear coincidental or improvised at first glance, they are actually the culmination of a long process of contemplation, arrangement, and rearrangement.

Biography
Born in Middelrode, Netherlands, in 1978.
He studied at AKV St. Joost in Breda and at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amsterdam.

Recent major solo exhibitions include "How to Look at a Spiral" (De Pont Museum / Tilburg), "Meaning Making" (Joseph Tang / Paris), "Contemporary Presences: Marijn van Kreij" (Picasso Museum / Barcelona),

"Nude in the Studio" (Post / Tokyo), among others.
His works are in public and private collections both in Japan and abroad, including the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, the Bonnefantenmuseum (Maastricht), the De Pont Museum (Tilburg), and the Staatliche Graphische Sammlung München.

Recently, the art book "Pictorial Content?", which compiles about 10 years of his drawing and collage activities, was published by Roma Publications.

He currently continues to create in Tilburg, teaches at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam, and participates in the artist collective "it is part of an ensemble".
